Confirmation Ministry

Confirmation Ministry

 Beginning September 2025,
Confirmation is a three-year
discipleship ministry
for our Middle School-aged youth.

The purpose of Confirmation:

  • To help our young people prepare themselves for a public affirmation of the faith into which they were baptized (confirmation of Baptism).
  • To prepare our young people to lead godly lives by following Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32-33).

2025 – 2026 Schedule:

  • Confirmation class is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings beginning September 3rd. Please write the dates on your calendar or put the schedule on your phone.
  • Class Cancellation: There will be no confirmation classes if the school closes due to weather. If a student is from another school district, the student will follow that school's schedule.
  • First Year Confirmation Students will study key Old Testament accounts, using the material as is our custom.
  • Second Year Confirmation Students will study key New Testament accounts.
  • Third Year Confirmation Students will study and learn the six chief parts of Luther's Small Catechism.
  • Confirmation Day will be Reformation Sunday, the last Sunday in October.

Requirements:

  • Attendance: Each student will attend all classes unless there is an good reason why they can’t. Please notify the Pastor beforehand if the student cannot participate in a given week.
  • Confirmation instruction is for the student's eternal benefit. St. Peter admonishes everyone to "Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18).
  • Confirmation is NOT the completion of one's Christian Education. Rather, spiritual growth and nurturing it are the process of "life-long learning."
  • Each student will be asked to faithfully read the Bible and fill out the "Bible Reading Questions." Parents are asked to occasionally check to see if the student is doing their work and that their answers are complete and thoughtful.
  • If a student misses a class, they must complete all the work scheduled for the day they are absent before the next class.

Sermon Notes:

  • Students will attend worship regularly, listen carefully to the sermons, and write notes and comments on what they heard in the sermon. These will be turned into the office, where a record will be kept.
  • During the school year, 45 weekly worship services are held, including Wednesday evening Lenten services, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. Therefore, 15 sermon notes are required for each year of confirmation.
If you have any questions about Confirmation, please feel free to contact Pastor Stenzel at 619-822-0167 or stop by the office to visit with him.
